A tale that wags the dog or just another Tale?
Today TheLadders announced that they will be expanding their services to all Professional Careers. TheLadders stated they will be heling all career minded "professionals" * .
They will be helping indiviuals from All Salary Levels, and they state that they will show the "right" Jobs to the "right" persons **
They guarantee that individuals won't see jobs that pay half or Double what their paid members would be currently making, nor will they be seeing jobs outside of their fields *** and that finance professionals would not be seeing sales jobs, or marketing jobs.. They also promise that no more "scammy" work at home schemes or comission only opportunites will no longer be allowed. They promised to Vet every job and recruiter before allowing them in the "community"
**** They claim to be "experts" at modern recruiting -
That is a lot of promises from TheLadders - It would be interesting to see what they determine to be a Career Minded Professional *, that is a very subjective comment at best.
** It will also be interesting to see how they determine what the "right" job is to the "right Person" - is there such a thing.. a Right Job or even a "right" Person?
*** Regarding jobs outside of fields that also is quite a broad brush to paint with. Especially considering how broad a "field" can be; or even the skills of an individual
**** A job board claiming to be recruiting experts? Well that is indeed a bold statement. Granted they do provide a Resume Writing service but does that a recruiter make?
As Usual TheLadders makes a lot of promises, that does leave one interested in wondering can they produce what they promise?
TheLadders Has been under a lot of pressure to Improve their process, and to live up to their promises TheLadders’ Marc Cenedella: Burying the pig, TheLadders: How the scam works; And they also came under a lot of Scrutiny in February, 2011 when "TheLadders Paid Bloggers To Learn About TheLadders- MediaJobsDaily, see also
TheLadders’ Mercenaries to Critics: They’re good eggs!By Nick Corcodilos and Climbing All Over TheLadders by Mark Stelzner
Their argument was that they were seeking advice from H.R and Recruiting experts. Well, ironically, a large number of the individuals who TheLadders wined and dined to attend their "meeting" - well a large majority had never utilized TheLadders as a recruiting or employment tool. Had No intent of using TheLadders as a Recruiting or employment tool and in fact a good porportion of the individuals who were invited were not even in the position of even utilzing the Tool as a either a recruiter or HR member, because they were not and have not been working in a position that would allow them to utilize the tools as an HR or Recruiting Member of the Industry..
In other words, many of the H.R "leaders" that TheLadders Convened, many were actually self proclaimed Thought "leaders" and friends of other "thougth leaders" - but interestingly, were not actively practicing in the industry.
Why did TheLadders choose these "leaders?" Was it because they have noted blogs? Did they hope that they could help them improve their reputation? Who Knows, though it does leave a sordid taste in ones mouth.
So, today as TheLadders roles out their new "vision" with a lot of promises, one does have to ask are they willing to live up to their agressive promises? Will they live up to their agressive promises, or will they resort to their previous behavior?
My Personal Question - why in the heart of recession is TheLadders still charging candidates to get a job? And is it worth it?
