Sourcing and Research
In Tidbit 14, we used the Intitle option to “clean up” our LinkedIn search string results. We will now use the Inurl option to search in very specific places.
Inurl
URL stands for “Uniform Resource Locator”. It’s the address of a resource, file, site, service, etc. on the internet, and it is located at the bottom of each matched result. The inurl search syntax allows you to search for words within the URL. A URL is highlighted below.

There are over 9000 results, the first pages being the on target results. A partial list is included on the next page. Open the link and search for the club officers. 90% include the officers names and titles, and a very large percentage include the email address of each officer and the club advisor. I systematically copy and paste the club officers email addresses (from multiple universities), into a Word document. I also copy and paste the club advisors email addresses. Using my Outlook BCC, I send a mass email letter to the students and another letter to the advisors (they are eager to help place the students). I always get results.
I keep these email addresses and resend whenever the need is there. Note: Theses students will one day be college alumi and employees, a fantastic source for experienced contacts/candidates.
In many instances, the advisors have posted the job orders I’m working, resulting in many resumes ending up in my mailbox from a variety sources. Very nice!

Give some thought to where your potential candidates are, then be creative when using the Inurl option: directories, alumni, etc.
Happy hunting
