Reality check: Recruiters are not your personal job finders.

This viewpoint may burst some bubbles for most job seekers. It’s a hard reality and needs to be understood by job seekers who have the wrong idea about what recruiters and headhunters do for a living.  When one starts a search for a new job, the first professional they may try to connect with is a recruiter.  A recruiter would know where to find a job…right? They can take the resume and push it to everyone they know…right?  Dead wrong.

I recently assisted job seekers who were scouring some of the larger job boards, as well as Craig’s list for jobs to which they could apply.  One came to me with a joy of accomplishment on her face, noting, “I got a job!” She explained a ‘guy’ has parents with Alzheimer’s who wants a babysitter for a few hours weekly for $800 a week.

Stories of a Mexican recruiter negotiating with Japanese professionals & executives.

I studied Japanese for a few years. I had the opportunity to live in Japan and I have "negotiated' with them in many different ways since 1992.

I would like to share my 2 cents regarding my learning experience and observations over the years. I am going to divide my comments on 2 or maybe 3 contributions due to the length of the information to be shared.

“When a Japanese say yes, he means maybe; if he says maybe he means no; but if he says no he stops being Japanese” (Hisanori Isumura. President of the Japan House of Culture in Paris).
