Everybody LOVES me, and I have No enemies..Really?

crying babiesOften we hear people speaking of being authentic, real, and transparent.. These are the "cool" words of the new century. Makes one think that these buzz words - being a part of your "brand"- is as cultural as say the cliche "networking" was in the '80's.

Yet, often I scratch my head when the comments "I have no enemies, everyone I meet loves me!" or "I try to make sure I don't ever ruffle feathers", or "gee, that individual is so popular, and everyone loves him/her, because she is so real".

Really? I ask... how can that be? How can one be real, and authentic and true to oneself but have NO enemies, NONE? or, be friends with everyone?

How can one be real and, authentic to Oneself, and ones internal value system, and still not ever trample on anyone else's toes?

Authentic and popularity? that seems a Catch 22 doesn't it? Being Authentic means being true to ones value system no matter if it goes beyond the 'status quo' ... and yes, it can also mean pushing the envelope, by standing up for what is important to you.

Being popular means sharing the same or similar common value system. Being friendly, amicable is one of the most important values systems of being popular. It means constantly living up to the expectations of the Status Quo, the Common beliefs, and the common or shared acceptance.

Which must therefore ask - If one is being true to one's internal value system, knowing that if you stood up for yourself, or others; if you continued to defend what you believed in, would you be considered popular? or would you be considered rocking the boat? pushing the envelope?

Would you be considered Honest and true to yourself?

Most importantly if we speak of transparency, then should we not remember this one important factor - that it is so very important to never compromise ones values for popularity..

Especially as it is what makes us all unique as individuals.

There is always going to be someone to say that the lemonade is too sour or too sweet.. No matter how much love you put into it :

True.. There are many people that I have had total respect for but may not have great fondness for.. and there are people I actually like to hang around with, and have lots of fun, and have no respect for at all.

In life there are three sides to every story - there is one side, there is the other, and then the truth in the middle... Nothing is totally black or white, there is always gray in between everything..
