If you have been a recruiter for any length of time you know that the industry is evolving at the speed of the internet. When I started recruiting we relied on newspaper ads to push our jobs out to the public and cold called prospects over the telephone to pull them in to interview. I had the good fortune to hear a luncheon talk by an HR pro by the name of Jack Smalley. Jack, who is with Express Employment Professionals, was the guest speaker at the SHRM- Atlanta year end luncheon. The basic theme of his talk was organizational change, theme of his talk was organizational change, but wrapped up in that presentation were three tips for retaining your top employees.
Both are underrated, refreshing and should be enjoyed more frequently!
It seems that all I can think and write about is forms of communication — whether it’s feedback, sensitive discussions, listening, body language or the how’s and the why’s of communicating.
I’m not going to apologize for my borderline obsession on this topic because communication is an integral part of sustaining positive relationships — personal and professional.
Today’s workplace has its own brand of bully. Instead of fists and feet, the adult bully uses an array of psychological tactics to exert control. But interestingly, adult bullies rarely view themselves as powerful.
They may even be overwhelmed – overreacting to minor setbacks, or interpreting everyday occurrences as personal slights.
